matriculation 2009

Yesterday was the matriculation fair and I must say I was quite tired by the time it was over. My time slot to register was 11 to 12 noon, and when I arrived at school at 1055am, there was already a sea of people! Then squeezing my way through the mass, I managed to find my queue, so I walked along the queue of people trying to find where the start was. To my horror, it was like 1km long! Haha. I think I waited for about 20 odd minutes before I finally managed to enter the hall. Fortunately I happened to see my cousin who was matriculating as well, otherwise the waiting would have been worse.

Thinking the wait would be over soon, I stepped into the hall only to find even more people waiting for their queue number… haha. And I haven’t mentioned about the goodie bags that I have been carrying all these while. I had 2 or 3 in each hand, my own bag slung on my left shoulder and another bag on the right. I wonder why they give us so many food and retail outlet coupons and vouchers whose expiry dates are around a month’s time. And they also gave us facial and body wash, a toy figurine, (in case we need to use it in school) sweets, thermometer and a whole lot of other things that I threw away already.

The cca booths were next after the matriculation was over . I was slugging these bags along, together with my laptop :D and as I visited the various booths, some kind people offered to help me carry some load. But I soon realized that they had ulterior motives… they led me to their booths and asked me to join. Sigh. Who’d be so kind to offer help :( So afterwards I learnt not to accept their help and my hands wouldn’t be free to write anything! Haha. It was funny when they approached to give me a brochure, but because my hands were full, they didn’t know what to do. Then someone began to slip the brochure into one of my bags and the rest followed.

However, I was pleasantly surprised to meet a few old friends. There was my primary 3 classmate who happens to be taking the same course as I am, and his friend with him whom I knew. I also met my primary 6 classmate who’s taking chem eng, my cousin, another friend’s friend, army friend, sajc friend, hcjc classmate who was selling laptops… Singapore is too small not to bump into a familiar face. Somehow everyone is related to each other. And to think that only the engine faculty was present that day.

But the thing that made me the happiest is this! Ta da!

It’s my first laptop! Initially I was told that this model doesn’t come in white. So I was expecting to bring home a black one, when they told me only schools sell the limited white version! Yay. Black is nice too, sleek, but white is unique :) I hope this can last me at least up to 5 years. Though I secretly would prefer a mac, but this fujitsu S6520 has quite high specs. (intel core 2 duo T9600, 2.8GHz, 6MB L2 cache, 1066MHzFSB, 4GB ram, 500GB hd)

After what seems like the longest break I’ve had, school is starting! But instead of complaining, I think I should be very thankful for having the opportunity to study :)
